We are blessed to have him. In his own words, “The pastoral ministry wasn’t even on the radar screen when I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in history. I had intended to teach high school social studies, but the Holy Spirit changed my direction by filling me with a greater desire to serve the Church. (Indirectly I have also served the schools through the many students and teachers in the congregations I have served.)

I was born in Los Angeles in 1946 and enjoyed an ‘Ozzie and Harriet’ fifties childhood with a brother and four sisters. The church and parochial schools we attended were at the center of our family life. The grace of God that filled my childhood became profoundly real and personal to me while in college, largely through the ministry of my church and Campus Crusade for Christ.

Following graduation I married Judy Simonson, a farmer’s daughter from Minnesota (that was grace!), and tried my hand at teaching, gardening, and social work, but remained restless in spirit. With the encouragement of my pastor I enrolled in Lutheran Brethren Seminary. My first parish was in Culture Shock, ND (Maddock, population 750). Since then I have served congregations in Eugene, OR and Grand Rapids, MN before moving to Lynnwood. Along the way Judy and I adopted our daughter and two sons, who have blessed us with six grandkids (thus far).

On a leisure evening you would likely find me reading. History, classic novels, and ‘First Things’ journal are my favorites. Or I might be scribbling away at some creative writing. Saturdays are typically enjoyed working on house and garden projects. The highlight of our annual routine is our family adventure in primitive camping and hiking in the Tuolumne Meadows region of the High Sierra’s wilderness.

Experience has taught me that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is not necessarily evident in the circumstances of life. But His grace has accompanied me through them all. It’s a story I love to share with anyone who will listen.”

He presently teaches choral music at Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA and is the Chambers Singers director for the Seattle Children’s Chorus. You’ll often find him running back and forth setting up the equipment before and during a worship service. Bill plays several instruments and occasionally sings.
